The Future is being Prototyped Today:

For the first time, technology-minded students have the opportunity to work globally and connect with each other directly. The Global Venture Catalyst is a 4 day global event for aspiring student entrepreneurs and innovators. Due to sponsorship, the event is available without cost for the 500 most innovative students globally to develop new venture and industry career paths.

Unlike traditional venture programs which are small and expensive, this is a large scale virtual event focused on launching and accelerating student opportunities. Global Venture Catalyst allows leading students to meet each other, form teams, work intensely for 4 days, make potentially life-long networks, and connect with Silicon Valley. The program is developed by Prof. Ikhlaq Sidhu at UC Berkeley based on the concepts of Innovation Engineering.

Acceptance Criteria:

  • For technically minded students and broader students interested in technology ventures, tech industry jobs, or continued technical education.

  • 3rd or 4th year Bachelor’s degrees candidate in technical and non-technical areas with an interest in technology

  • The program accepts 3 technical for every non-technical (business-oriented) student

How it Works:

  1. Students apply by providing ideas, skills, and background information.

  2. If selected, students participate in the 4 Day Virtual Bootcamp style event.

  3. We will use an AI based algorithm developed by Ikhlaq Sidhu to match teams most likely to create value and benefit from knowing each other.

  4. GVC adds ideas and concepts from external firms in special area tracks.

  5. GVC provides step-by-step guidance for execution and innovation behaviors

  6. Top teams are awarded by day for 4 for additional opportunities including acceptance into partner programs and ward of $500 per team for 5 teams.

  7. All teams finish program by meeting new team members, Silicon Valley mentors, and developing their project to change the world. All teams who complete the program receive an Innovation Engineering Certificate.

  • Q: Can I join with team existing team members?
    A: Yes, up to 2 can be a duo and you team will grow with 2 new members.

  • Q: What if I want to take my project forward, do I need to do it with all team members.
    A: Just like in real life, any subset of team members can take a project forward. A successful project will require each team members to be essential. In practice, effort and execution are more important that than the original idea.

  • Q: What if my end goal is to work in an existing company.
    A: Working on a new venture is a good way to learn about new emerging problems and meet new industry contacts. Sometimes companies also “acqui-hire” people in a group in new venture as a way to hire the best people in new areas.

Program Schedule:

Day 1: Lecture/Discussion: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PST. Topics: Innovation, Auto-match, Story. Teamwork due in 12 hours.

Day 2: Lecture/Discussion: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PST. Roles, Customer vs Venture Pitch, Mentor Match, Validation. Teamwork due in 5 days

Day 3: Lecture/Discussion: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PST. Topics include Venture Execution, Stakeholders, Leadership, Business Model. Teamwork due in 12 hours

Day 4: Lecture/Discussion: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PST. Topics include judging, master class, Innovation Engineering framework, and winners announcement.
